Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive when it comes to our full range of painting services.

What kind of paint do you use and why?
Depending on the job, we use either exterior latex coatings or Urethane coatings on interior trim and cabinetry. For interior walls we use a PVA sealer first and then generally, a no voc topcoat for walls and ceilings. All products are high grade Sherwin Williams products. When properly applied, there is nothing more durable.
Do you still use oil-based paints? What is the primary difference between oil- and latex-based paints? What are the benefits of each?
The only time we use oil paints is when areas with tannons bleed thru the paint leaving stains. Newer coatings which are latex and urethanes are just as durable if not more than oil paints and much more enviormentally friendly. Oil paints react with sunlight and will yellow over a period of time causing premature repaints.ns do you offer?
We offer eco-friendly, non-toxic paint options to complete your painting project. Plus, we make use of leftover paints for moldings and trims and dispose of everything the right way.
How many coats of paint are included in the quote?
One coat of exterior paint is 1/1000 of an inch when dry. We garantee 2.5/1000. We meter the amount of paint as we apply it. With the film thickness being as mentioned, there is no way to know what your putting on unless it is metered as applied. With more difficult colors to paint over, as many coats as needed are applied to accomplish full color coverage. Trim paints and wall paints are also metered as applied.
How long does a new paint job typically last?
Our top-quality paint jobs will typically last you for 10 and we have many that have lasted 14+ years. A major determining factor is the prep that is done to eliminate water damage. Also, primers are very important in areas which are exposed to harsh sun or rain. Primeres are made to stand the weather elements where topcoats are decorative coatings with less protection properties.
The same is true for exterior trim and walls. Just topcoats on new material do not afford the durability because they are not made to perform that function. They are durable when applied in proper sequence when new.

I have an older home that might have lead paint. How will it impact my painting project?
Rest assured, we are certified to paint over lead paint. Our team will make sure to take all the necessary safety precautions and follow specific procedures to get the job done right.
If a paint says it’s a paint and primer all-in-one, does that mean primer is mixed in with the paint?
Even if it says that it’s a paint and primer all-in-one, there technically isn’t any primer in the mix. These are simply thicker paints with more coverage per coat.
Would you need to prime an area before painting it with another coat of latex paint?
Generally, you would not need to prime an already painted wall, but at Randy David Painting, Inc., we make sure your walls are clean before adding a new layer.
What are the different kinds of paint finishes, and how do I select them for each room?
The different kinds of paint finishes include eggshell, matte, semi-gloss, and satin. We will be happy to show you the difference and let you know what we feel is best for each room of the house.
