What Goes Into a Professional Interior Paint Job?

A great interior paint job starts long before the first coat of paint goes on the wall. Proper preparation helps create a smoother finish, cleaner lines and results that hold up better over time.

Before painting begins, our crew protects floors, furniture and other surfaces in the work area. Walls, ceilings and trim are inspected and prepared as needed, which may include filling holes, repairing minor imperfections, sanding and priming. Once the surfaces are ready, we apply the appropriate paint and number of coats needed for consistent coverage and a professional finish.

When the painting is complete, we clean up the work area and complete a final walk-through to make sure the details are right and you’re happy with the finished project.

Interior Painting FAQ’s

PVA sealer is a type of primer used on new or repaired drywall. It seals the porous surface so the paint absorbs evenly, helping create a more consistent color and finish. We’ll determine whether a sealer or primer is needed based on the condition of the walls before painting.

Most standard rooms can be completed in about one to two days, depending on the amount of preparation needed, the surfaces being painted and the number of coats required. Larger rooms or projects that include ceilings, trim, doors or repairs may take longer. We’ll give you a better idea of the timeline before the project begins.

Absolutely. Dark colors sometimes require additional preparation, primer or an extra coat of paint to achieve even coverage with a lighter color. We’ll use the products and number of coats needed to make sure the old color doesn’t show through the new finish.

Roller marks can happen for several reasons, including using the wrong roller for the surface, applying too little paint or continuing to work the paint as it begins to dry. Proper preparation, quality products and good application techniques all help create a smooth, consistent finish.

We recommend removing pictures, artwork and other items from the walls and moving smaller or valuable items out of the work area. If possible, move furniture away from the walls so our crew has room to work. We’ll take care of protecting floors, furniture and other surfaces as part of our preparation process.
